10 of the most commonly asked questions we hear....and our answers:

Q1. Which is your best coffee?

A:  The best coffee is always the one you love the most.  If you've not tried our coffee before, we recommend that you start with any of our Blends and then try something different.  No matter how good it is, life would be pretty boring if we had to eat the same food every day - coffee is no different.

Q2. What's the best way to store my coffee?

A:  Keep your coffee in the provided bags. Remove as much air as possible, use the ziplock, then store the bag in a cool, dark place like the pantry.  Please don't keep your coffee in the fridge or freezer - doing so will create condensation around the beans and wash away their beautiful aroma.

Q3. Can you grind my coffee for me?

A:  If you are at our shop, then the answer is a reluctant, "yes".  If you buy online, then it's, "no way - whole beans only". The reason is that coffee is similar to other fresh foods.  Once your coffee is ground the increased surface area quickly absorbs oxygen and atmospheric moisture and loses it's delightful aroma.  The price for a good quality coffee grinder starts at around $200 and can be as much as $3000.  You tend to get what you pay for, though there are some grinders that are better built, better performers, and better value than others.  Whether you are thinking of buying a coffee grinder from our range, or something else, f you would like some advice we're happy to help.

Q4. Can I call ahead with my order?

A:  You are kidding right?

Q5.  Is that a coffee grinder over there?

A:  No, that's Thomas, our 15kg Has Garanti Coffee Roaster.

Q6. Why aren't you opened longer hours?

A:  Unfortunately there are no coffee elves who work here to prepare, clean, order stock, roast coffee, etc.  That kind of stuff adds another 30 odd hours to my week and though I enjoy it,  I think that's enough.  We will however do our best to meet you for demonstrations or private lessons outside normal business hours.

Q7.  What coffee do you serve in the shop?

A:  See our response in question 1 for a hint.  We vary what we use at the shop and change what we prepare every week or so.

Q8.  What's the story behind the photo?

A:  That's a photo of my Mum when she was almost 20 years old.  Mum worked in a coffee and tea merchant's shop in Cairo, Egypt before immigrating to Australia, and the photo was taken there.  Mum is now 93 and still going strong!

Q9.  How long have you been here?

A: Since early this morning...oh, you mean how long has the shop been here?  The original shop was opened in January 2008 and we moved to this location in December 2011.

Q10.  What's the best coffee you've ever had?

A:  Probably while I was sitting outside a cafe in the main square on the Isle of Capri, watching people being watched.  I can't recall what the coffee tasted like.  I can only recall the experience...and that's what made it the best coffee I've ever had.
